Like a coward, I waited until they left before I entered Annette’s room. My fear is if she saw Aurora and me together, she’d remember. I can’t lose her again.

Her eyes are closed as I shut the door to her room, then take a seat beside her bed. I have a dozen things to attend to with the takeover of Infinite Essence. Pulling out my cell phone, I flip through my messages. Thankfully, Grayson and Diandra have picked up much of my work. Diandra is on complete bed rest, as their baby hasn’t come into the world yet. She’s overdue, and if the latest member of the Moore family doesn’t make an appearance soon, Diandra will be induced. She’s grateful for the work to keep her occupied but anxious about the baby.

“Hey, handsome.”

Turning off the cell phone, I slip it into my coat pocket and take Annette’s hand. “How was it?”

“They were very friendly. It was kind of weird.”

“How so?”

“They knew me, but I didn’t know them.” Annette shakes her head. “And they called me Nettie.”

“Not even a glimmer of recognition?”

Annette shrugs. “Nope. Aurora suggested hypnosis.”

My heart skips a beat.

“Is that something you want to do?”

“Maybe?”

“What about a change of scenery?”

“Are you breaking me out for the day?”

I smirk at her. “I was thinking something a little more adventurous.”

“Oh, am I getting out of the hospital?” Annette asks with a grin.

“Do you remember when I told you we were going to expand HELP internationally?”

“Yes, we fought about it. It’ll mean you’ll be traveling a lot.”

It amazes me Annette can remember this argument but not walking in on me with Sabine. I need to thank the gods for that.

“Yes, we did. I’m sorry, I should’ve told you, but…” I pause for dramatic effect. “How would you like to come with me?”

“With you where?”

“London.”

“It’s a seven-hour flight. I’m not sure I could deal with seven hours on a plane.”

Taking her hand in mine, I say, “Who said anything about flying?”

“How else will we get there? Swim?”

Chuckling, I kiss her fingertips. “Ship.” Annette cocks her head to the side. “You said you always wanted to do a transatlantic crossing. Well, now we can.”

“And you always said seven days on a boat with no way to get off wasn’t a vacation but a prison sentence.”

My nose turns up her words. “True, but I have to go, and I want you to come with me. We can be cellmates together.”

“What ship?”

It’s true the idea of spending a week on a ship and not being able to get off fills me with boredom, but if it will keep Annette with me, I’ll do anything.

“Queen Mary 2.”

Annette’s face lights up. “How many formal nights are there?”

“Three.”

“Three?” Annette claps her hands. “We’ll need to go shopping!”

I laugh. “So, is that a yes?”

“Yes! When do we leave?”

“Monday.”

“But that’s only three days away.” Annette reaches for me. “We can’t possibly go. I’m too unsteady on my feet.”

“We’re going to take a male nurse with us. I’ve made inquiries, and there’s an agency that specializes in this sort of thing.
